Emeryville, CA based retail company is looking to identify a Claims Administrator to join their Legal Department. Reporting to the Senior Risk Manager, this position will be responsible for administering the handling of all Workers Compensation claims including receiving and recording, investigation, degree of liability, subrogation and recovery, and record retention. This is a contract/temporary assignment, requiring candidates to report on site in their Emeryville offices up to 4 days per week!
Responsibilities Include:
Receive and review all claims for accuracy and data completion.
Analyze and process claims by investigating and gathering information to determine the exposure.
Report all claims to third party administrators and insurance companies.
Work with the appropriate supervisors to review incidents, conduct root cause analysis, follow up with witness statements, video retention and ensure appropriate follow up.
Track and update claim database with new notes, financials and claim documents.
Prepare claim documents for settlement and presentation for Risk Manager's approval and follow-up to ensure closure with the insurers and third-party administrator.
Prepare monthly and quarterly Risk Management status reports, ad hoc loss runs and other claim data analyses from the third-party administrator system, company information and other sources.
Interact with injured employees to ensure awareness and understanding of the workers' compensation process and requirements.
Work with the benefits department to account for employee absences due to workers compensation injuries to avoid duplication of pay.
Join forces with Safety, Human Resources, supervisors, and administrators to facilitate reporting of work-related illnesses and injuries and return to work.
Coordinate ergonomic evaluations with vendor and injured worker.
Coordinate quarterly claim reviews with third-party administrators.
Determine and validate if claims fall under subrogation. Identify legal liability and pursue, negotiate, and settle subrogation collection. Collaborate with other members of the Legal team to resolve.
Interact with transportation supervisor to gauge fleet safety and provide directions for opportunities to improve performance.
Prepare OSHA 300 logs, Annual Summary and OSHA 301 Incident Report forms.
Develop dashboard and metric reporting of claims and benchmarks, proficiency with systems and reporting.
Develop procedures and processes for claims, including written communications and cross-departmental training.
Certificates of Insurance - coordinate and manage third party certificates (product, professional providers), including implementing a software program to manage them.
Assist in data collection related to insurance policy applications across all lines of business coverage.
Other projects and assignments as needed and instructed by the Risk Manager
Requirements:
3-5 years Claims Management/Administration experience.
Good interpersonal skills with ability to work across all levels of the organization.
Excellent communication skills - verbal and written.
Good organizational and analytical ability
Ability to multitask and manage a caseload of claims with associated deadlines and requirements.
Able to work as part of a team as well as ability to take initiative and work independently - a self-starter.
Good problem-solving and negotiating skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Proficient in MS Office suite of tools (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
