The Art Director will be the key partner in executing innovative new high fidelity mobile games. You will be the motivational foundation of the art team on the project and help define the visual direction of the game. In addition, you will be one of the main communication channels for design and programming. You will act as a manager and mentor, fostering a team culture of collaboration, inclusion and empowerment. Essential duties/responsibilities
- Lead, lead, and mentor multiple art disciplines in a project team through all stages of development.
- Provide art direction and provide feedback to artist team and external vendors.
- Supervise, train, advise, motivate artists
- Train team members to reach their optimum levels of performance and ensure the team receives regular reviews and one-on-one meetings.
- Manage performance within the team in a way that fosters autonomy, mastery and purpose.
- Create reference visual assets that inspire and establish a visual direction and vision for others (concepts, models, overpaints)
- Manage art production and raise the visual quality of art assets to meet and exceed internal quality levels
- Maintain current and working knowledge of industry/market trends, make recommendations as appropriate
- Work with the studio Art Director to own and define assigned aspects of the project as directed.
- Contribute to the development of pipelines for projects with specific creative and technological needs in collaboration with engineering
- Anticipate, identify and present problem areas and develop preventative solutions for the team.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure schedules and plans meet business and project needs
- Liaise with senior management to ensure team is healthy and strong
- Work closely with game design to ensure the art enhances the player experience.
- Present designs to clients, partners or senior management for approval.
- Exemplify trustworthiness, accountability, and professionalism in all work-related interactions
- Lead by example, creating a strong sense of purpose and community, fostering a culture of excellence and inclusion, fostering a sustainable work-life balance.
Skills and abilities:
- A proven ability to visually solve problems in collaboration with the wider game team, including other artists, art leads and design leads.
- Solid foundation in concept art skills, traditional art skills, knowledge of graphic design principles. Good eye for light, value, composition, color, anatomy.
- Capable of adapting to a wide variety of visual styles, stylized or realistic.
- Excellent written and verbal communication. Convenient to interact and present to all levels of the company, key stakeholders and publishers.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong desire to iterate and improve processes.
- Demonstrate leadership fundamentals including clear and proactive communication, moderating meetings and overseeing large cross-functional initiatives.
- Ability to manage multiple competing tasks and be self directed to meet deadlines in a fast changing environment with little to no oversight.
- Positive attitude and ability to receive and provide objective and constructive feedback.
- Ability to train, manage, mitigate and prioritize stressful situations for you and your team
Education And Experience
- 4 years of video game creation experience
- 3 years of experience as lead artist or art director
- Experience working with an Art Director to develop a unique, cohesive visual style.
Type of work/Expected working hours
- Our main hours are 10am - 5pm. M. to 6:00 PM CST, which means you must be available for meetings, etc. in this period.
