About the Team:
The People team is a collaborative team that seeks out the diverse opinions, skills and strengths of our colleagues around the world with respect and empathy when delivering work for Dow Jones. The People Business Partner team, which is a group within the People team, does this by working together for the greater good, sharing our expertise, experience and ideas to support each other both within our team and when engaging with our Centers of Excellence/Experts (COEs). We're uniquely positioned as a partner to our employees and business leaders to develop relationships strategically focused on both people and business goals. Our People Business Partners endeavor to understand the evolving needs of the business unit and its employees. Through collaboration with the COEs, business partners ensure the workforce is supported, engaged, and future-focused.
About the Role:
We're looking for an HR Generalist who has a solid foundation of HR experience and a desire to grow their career in an HR/People Business Partner function. As an Associate People Business Partner, you will work across one or more of our People Business Partners (PBPs) supporting business client groups. You will get to apply your HR knowledge in support of business objectives and begin to take on client group relationships of your own. You are curious, have high emotional intelligence, and possess an appreciable sense of humor. You have a track record of working in a People function in roles that have given you the opportunity to partner with employees and their managers and demonstrate your problem solving skills. You want to live our values of Collaboration, Trust, Impact and Excellence through your work, delivering a people-first approach to our client groups and to optimize our own ways of working. You will work on site in our midtown Manhattan office three days each week reporting to a Manager, People Business Partner.
You Will:
- Have a solid foundation of HR processes and programs that support the entire employee life cycle and an aptitude to apply this knowledge more deeply in support of a business unit's objectives.

Develop an understanding of the goals and objectives of the business as well as how the PBP team plays an important role as a strategic partner to leaders and their teams.

Develop an understanding of Dow Jones' businesses and be a partner to our PBPs on strategic initiatives, supporting the roll out of programs and processes across the business teams you support. You are resourceful, bringing the right people partners together to support business needs.

Confidently work directly with people managers on HR processes, procedures, precedents, and initiatives, engaging PBPs and/or appropriate People team COE partners as required.

Provide day-to-day performance management guidance to people managers (coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions) and engage with Employee Relations as needed.

Understand the importance of advocacy around diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization.

Comfortably operate with ambiguity, working through issues that do not always have a process or a system in place. Raise your hand when you need support and take an active role in looking for solutions and can learn from any mistakes.

Communicate openly yet operate with discretion when needed. Assume good intent when working with colleagues and the business and ask for coaching when you need support handling a new challenge.

Develop relationships and credibility. Deliver on what you promise your clients and your colleagues – thoughtfully and reliably. Establish trust so that Managers and their teams know they can rely on you to follow through and they experience excellent partnership from you. Help us celebrate excellence across the People team by participating as an active, engaged team member and supporting other initiatives and projects as required.
You Have:
- The willingness and ability to work onsite in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week.

4+ years of human resources experience, with at least two years as a generalist.

Experience with employee relations and performance management.

Foundational business acumen with a keen aptitude to quickly assimilate new information.

Proven ability to effectively interact with managers and employees in a multicultural environment and build strong, trusted relationships.

Curiosity to learn and understand the business partner function and skillset.

Experience with and knowledge of current employment/labor laws (federal, state, and local regulations).

Ability to function independently, with minimal supervision, and thrive within a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication.

Effective collaboration, coaching and counseling skills.

Ability to to work under pressure and be a proactive team player.
