Job summary
The Audio Communications Specialist II is responsible for providing communications support for live event productions performed at a DMED facility along with remote production facilities and mobile units. The work will be carried out in a fast-paced environment for a wide variety of productions and events drawing on non-traditional production approaches.
The Audio Communications Specialist II is responsible for setup, troubleshooting and quality control of internal intercom communications and interconnection with other venues during live production. They must have a solid understanding of remote connectivity and remote manufacturing as well as the installation and configuration of mobile units. As multitaskers, they must collaborate across multiple teams including production, management, remote operations, and various DMED technology teams to support the technical infrastructure and configuration to support each unique production. In addition, they are required to respond to various communication requests to meet all production-related needs.
As expert troubleshooters, they are expected to diagnose problems quickly and find immediate, permanent solutions. They are expected to work with their peers to continuously evaluate and improve the management of technical resources, as well as the workflows created to meet production needs.
Responsibility
- Provide audio/communications support for all REMI or non-traditional production positions including producer, director, TD, A1, playback and graphics. Work with audio/communication partners at DMED/ESPN. Maintain professionalism and strong communication when providing support and troubleshooting.
- Build a solid troubleshooting foundation to properly diagnose technical communication problems as they arise. Ensure excellent communication is used when discussing technical issues and solutions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in training programs (physical, face-to-face, virtual, etc.) for professional growth and development and/or in relation to any relevant equipment and workflow changes within the operation.
- Maintain a solid understanding of signal flow and plant infrastructure. Make sure the right lines are scheduled, booked and connected for each event
- Maintain documentation of audio/communications assets, technical documentation, and assignment of audio/communications trunks.
- You must build and maintain audio setups and production-related technical plans to meet the needs of each live production.
- Contributes to administrative work on various platforms (O365, Smartsheet, SAP)
Qualifications Required
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on television production or related experience in the medium to large broadcast market, digital broadcasting platform/broadcasting and/or comparable undergraduate broadcasting level.
- Basic knowledge of all television production equipment and technologies within assigned areas of operation.
- Ability to complete tasks to tight deadlines, work independently and support concurrent projects.
- Scheduling flexibility, including the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- You must be willing and able to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
- Strong interpersonal communication, customer service, organisation, IT and planning skills.
- Ability to work as part of a dynamic team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced understanding of integrated remote workflows, terminology, remote productions and mobile units
- Advanced understanding of computer network architecture, including IP addresses, switches, VPNs.
- Advanced understanding of intercom system components including RTS/Telex, Riedel and Unity providers.
- Understanding of talent commentator box setup, including setup, configuration, and signal flow
- Regional communications support experience and/or in-depth communications infrastructure experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of broadcast communication equipment, workflows and technology including but not limited to: Telex/Riedel/Unity infrastructure, broadcast routers.
- Ability to lead a team of colleagues within a live production to delegate and prioritize responsibilities to exceed production needs.
- You should be involved in planning operational workflows and preparing the content needed to support all productions
- You are expected to participate in the development of other operational staff members through training and seminars. Recommend and create new initiatives to support operational staff development. Participation in training programs (physical, face-to-face, virtual, etc.) for own career development and/or on any relevant team and workflow changes within the operation.
- Ability to provide exceptional customer service to our partners.

Education
- High school, professional diploma or equivalent
