Automation Controls Engineer, Armtec Defense Technologies
Armtec Defense Technologies (Armtec) is an operating unit of the TransDigm Group (NYSE: TDG), an industry leader in aerospace and defense products and services. Armtec is comprised of three business units producing subcomponents for ordnance in Coachella, CA; decoy countermeasure flares in Camden AR; and radar countermeasure chaff in Lillington NC. Job Summary:
Armtec Automation Controls Engineers play a pivotal role in revolutionizing manufacturing processes by designing, programming, and optimizing automation equipment. They lead the charge in automation projects, ensuring seamless integration and troubleshooting any challenges that arise while maintaining stringent safety standards. They approach challenges with a problem-solving mindset, always seeking solutions rather than limitations, and excel at leveraging external resources to overcome obstacles and achieve project goals. With a keen problem-solving mindset, they continuously seek opportunities to enhance efficiency through automation and harness the power of data visualization to drive informed decision-making.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead automation projects from conception to completion, including identifying opportunities, making cost estimates, developing requirements, creating drawings and other documentation, engaging internal and external resources, ensuring crisp project execution, conducting rigorous acceptance testing, and streamlining transition into production.
- Design, build, wire, and program control panels.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, contributing to their growth and development.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies, exploring their potential applications within the industry.
- Create dynamic dashboards to visualize process data, empowering decision-makers with actionable insights.
- Provide support for production operations, potentially on weekends and evenings, ensuring continuous operation and timely resolution of issues.
- Demonstrate adaptability and resourcefulness to ensure project success, even if it means personally wiring panels themselves.
- Uphold the highest ethical standards and adhere to Armtec’s business conduct policies at all times.
Qualifications:
- Proven track record of deploying automated control systems in manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in Ladder Logic programming (prefer RSLogix 500, and Studio 5000, Cscape and Mesoft GX Series Works2, GX Developer, Connected Components Workbench)
- Proficiency with HMI development (prefer Factory Talk View Studio, C-More, and Maple)
- Strong troubleshooting abilities for both AC and DC electrical equipment and circuits.
- Expertise in creating precise electrical schematics and control system diagrams. Autocad Electrical experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLCs and HMI panels Hardware, with a preference for hands-on experience.
- Experience with Industrial networks, SCADA systems, (Cognex Vision Insight Explorer), and servo / vfd Controllers is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with electrical requirements for hazardous locations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effective collaboration and client engagement.

Education & Professional Work Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in robotics, electrical engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 5+ years of automation engineering experience required.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- To conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government
