POSITION OVERVIEW
Certification Assistant will serve as the first point of contact at the Northside Economic Empowerment Center (NEEC) for the Certification Process Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) programs. Specific duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
- Determines whether applicants or firms are eligible to start the certification process in the City of St. Louis LocalM/WBE Program.
- Thoroughly review documents before submitting applications as complete; verifies corporate certificates,operating agreements, professional licenses, work history, outstanding loans, proof of insurance, and otherrelated documents.
- Assist applicants to ensure that all the requested information and required documents are submitted to thecertification analyst to begin the application process.
- Assist applicants in opening an account and uploading documents into the B2G system and BOSS portal.
- Organize and prepare information to assist certification analyst with preparing company profile packages for themonthly Public Review Committee (PRC) meetings.
- Prepare and issue W/MBE certification letters to firms, maintain and upload new firms into the city onlinedirectory.
- Assist and serve as support to all M/WBE Certification Analyst to ensure firms have a seamless, efficient, andeffective application process.
- Coordinates and schedules meetings for Certification Analyst; organize and arrange meeting places, create and send notifications, prepares agendas, and conducts MBE/WBE information meetings.

Qualifications
WHAT QUALIFIES YOU
- Must be detail-oriented, efficient in proofreading applications, proficient in data entry, Microsoft office suite/excel.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. Your ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is also critical to ensure clear and concise communication with stakeholders.
- You are willing to learn and has a genuine passion for personal and professional growth. As a team player, you should possess strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues and clients. You should also have excellent listening skills to understand and address their needs.
- Previous small business experience is a plus, as it will allow you to apply your skills in a practical setting.
- In this role, you'll be expected to handle conflicts professionally and efficiently. You must have exceptional multitasking skills and be able to organize your work effectively to meet deadlines. You should also possess a strong sense of confidentiality and be able to safeguard the program's information.
- Proficiency in technology is a must-have skill as you will be required to use various digital tools and platforms efficiently to carry out your tasks.
- Knowledge of and a passion for economic development, and a desire to make a tangible impact on the community.
- Must have strong analytical and innovative skills. You should be able to think critically, evaluate situations, and come up with creative solutions to challenges that arise.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience are strongly preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience working with governmental organizations, small businesses, or in a related field.
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This a full-time, exempt position with health benefits and paid-time-off. While our traditional work hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, SLDC provides a flexible/hybrid work environment of both onsite and offsite work and follows a customized work schedule of 40-hours per week for full-time employees. Evening and weekend work is required as job duties demand.
