This role focuses on developing data modeling skills with a long-term vision of progressing to the senior level of strategic data architect. This role will lead the development and maintenance of the data building and work with data production teams to improve curated data eligibility, data pipelines, data quality and data governance to support data democracy. The right person for this role will be eager to learn and develop skills related to data processing and long-term growth as a director and data manager. Data modeling and design is the process of identifying, analyzing, representing, and communicating data needs in a form known as data. Data models define and allow an organization to understand its data assets by basic elements such as entities, relationships, and attributes. These represent the basic concepts of business such as customer, product, employee, etc.

● Act as a subject matter expert in Costco's business data department or department (ie sales, inventory, promotions, etc.).
● Defines the supported data sources for data consumption (eg reporting, data science, API, etc.).
● Develops corporate data plans and architecture to maintain performance, quality, data security and compliance of standardized datasets.
● Create a routing document that documents how data should flow from the source system to the consumption layer (ie, sources and mappings).
● Supports data controllers within the delivery group(s) in documenting and documenting transaction metadata (i.e. descriptions)
● Review existing data structures to improve data flow.
● Brainstorming with database developers, data engineers, data scientists and platform engineers to create new data products.
● Know the data center approach to technology, architecture and processes related to data.
● Document and provide recommendations from data quality analysis.
● Participate in the delivery of the production of the ability to monitor the performance of the company.
● Analyze and translate business requirements into logical and descriptive data formats.
● Create physical data types, logical data types, etc.
● Advise the team on translating business needs into long-term architecture.
● Create and maintain a reference building for data services.
● Works with data engineering and data platform teams to perform continuous improvement projects through troubleshooting and introducing new technologies.
● Help define data integration, security, replication and transformation processes for the data layer of enterprise-supported technology solutions.
● Participate in the delivery of the company's performance monitoring capabilities.
● Collaborate with database developers, data engineers and data scientists to develop new data products.

● Good understanding of database security concepts (Data Lakes, relational databases, NoSQL, Graph, database).
● Strong desire to learn data modeling and architecture and best practices.
● Some experience working with data processing tools (Erwin, PowerDesigner).
● Experience with cloud databases.
