Engineering PM – Optical, Position Description

Support Project Management team with the deployment of Optical systems solutions.

SCOPE

• As part of the Major and Markets franchise, the role of Engineering PM is to provide support for technical related matters relative to implementation of optical networks and reconfiguration services.
• Product line includes Optical 6500 Layer 0, Layer 1, and Layer 2. RLS (Reconfigurable Line system), ELS, Waveservers, Waverouters etc.
• The EPM collaborate with the PM team members about the proposed optical solutions, to ensure Ciena delivers a timely and quality service to the customer.
• The EPM is a customer facing position and will be responsible for some presentations and/or consultation with the end-customer.
• The EPM will provide a first point of contact for field deployment related issues, and support for the implementation team.
• The EPM will interface with Sales Engineering and the various services engineering teams (upgrades, reconfiguration team, deployment teams, etc.) to ensure a smooth delivery of the technical solution to the end customer.
• Troubleshooting skills and previous knowledge of Ciena portfolio an asset.

• Self-motivated, passionate, customer focused with ability to collaborate and interact with cross-functional organizations within Ciena and customers.
• Breadth of technology, services and business acumen.
• Strong planner and organizer. Ability to execute experiments while meticulously documenting results for communication to stakeholders
• Ability to be resilient and work under high stress situations involving live customer traffic.
• Good problem-solving skills down to the design level and then translating that back to Engineering for resolution.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Technical Degree; BS or MS in Engineering or Computer Science or relevant experience
• Knowledge of Ciena products, particularly 6500 and RLS

CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Excellent presentation and customer service skills
• Strong working technical expertise in optical systems (OME 6500 and RLS)
• Excellent systems level understanding and an ability to learn and apply new concepts and technologies quickly.
• Flexible, able to handle multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
