MAPLE VIEW FARM POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Maple View Farm is hiring a full-time field crew member and a part time crew member. We are a high production no-till market Garden which produces a variety of vegetables, herbs, flowers, and micro-greens year-round. We use regenerative, sustainable, and organic farming practices to ensure optimum soil health and beautiful produce. The Farm supplies a local farmers market, farm to table restaurants, a local grocery store, and farm stand. Our 1 acre no-till market garden is managed and maintained with an efficient crew of 2-3 members. Crew members will get the opportunity to learn all aspects of a profitable small scale farm production system from seed to sale. On the job training combined with opportunities to dive deeper into specific topics of particular interest. Additionally, in collaboration with Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming, there exists the opportunity to participate in the Hudson Valley Apprentice Program for up to 60 hours of paid on-site/in-person Farmer Training Classes.
The season begins with training and working closely with Farm Manager. Crew members will gain responsibility and autonomy as the season progresses. By mid-season, crew members will be given leadership roles in various production tasks based on experience and interest. Full time work hours are expected to be 40-45 hours/week Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Part time work hours are expected to be 16-24 hours/week with some flexibility on work days. All employees are expected to work Saturdays 1-2x/month to work at the farmer’s market and nursery watering.
FULL TIME FIELD CREW MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES
● Field Preparation through applying composts, soil amendments, broad-forking, raking and weeding
● Perform all tasks related to vegetable production: Seeding, transplanting, watering, harvesting, washing/packing produce, pruning/trellising, recording production records
● Assume responsibility for one or more production-related tasks
● Staff our weekend farmers market 2 weekends per month
● Assist in pack-out for wholesale, CSA and markets
DESIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
● At least 1 year of full-time work in farming, or related fields such as landscaping/culinary work is preferred.
● Strong work ethic and an eye for both quality and efficiency
● Ability to take direction, learn quickly, and work autonomously, detail oriented
● Strong teamwork and communication skills; patience, flexibility, and emotional maturity.
● Applicants should have a strong understanding of the physical requirements of working on a farm and being outside in all kinds of weather.
● The ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly
● A valid US driver’s license and reliable transportation
COMPENSATION & EXPECTATIONS:
· Wage: $15-$20/hr depending on experience
· Free: Vegetables from the farm and farm team lunch each week
· Vacation/Sick Pay: Full time employees receive 1 week paid vacation/sick leave per calendar year
· Bonus: End of year performance bonus (full time employees only)
· Stipend: Full time employees receive a $250 reimbursable clothing stipend each year
· Full-time employees are expected to commit to a full season April-Nov, year round opportunities exist for the right candidate
· Housing is not included; having personal transportation is necessary.
· The Farm is a smoke and drug free environment.
