Michelson Laboratories is a leading food testing laboratory based in Southern California. The IT Manager is responsible for the daily operations of the IT department including its helpdesk and project management functions. These duties include implementing and overseeing technology systems and strategies in support of the laboratory’s mission.
Responsibilities for IT Manager
- Lead large IT projects, including the design and deployment of new IT systems and services.
- Team Leadership: Lead and grow a high-performing team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- System Management: Be able to work and become expert with our Laboratory Management Systems LIMS, Finance Platform, Business Applications, Cloud Collaboration Platforms and Instrumentation Systems to be able to appropriately build solutions for the rest of the company.
- Infrastructure Management: Manage the company’s infrastructure, which includes hosted, virtualized, and cloud-based assets.
- Monitor performance of Information Technology systems to determine cost and productivity levels, and to make recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure.
- Help define IT infrastructure strategy, architecture, and processes.
- Analyze business requirements by partnering with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions for IT needs.
- Vendor Management: Assess vendors and develop test strategies for new hardware and software. Collaborate with external vendors and partners to procure necessary hardware, software, and services, ensuring adherence to quality standards and contractual agreements.
- Manage the Helpdesk operation across two locations. Help staff with troubleshooting hardware and software issues related to internal IT.
- Security and Compliance: Implement and maintain security protocols and compliance measures to safeguard organizational data and ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices.
- Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring the organization’s ability to recover quickly from unforeseen events.
- Technology Evaluation and Integration: Stay abreast of emerging technologies, evaluate their relevance to the organization, and lead the integration of innovative solutions to enhance operational efficiency.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for IT infrastructure components, configurations, and processes. Build out processes to be followed and adhered to for the rest of the company.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, automation, and efficiency gains within the IT infrastructure, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Incident Management: Develop and implement incident response plans, ensuring a rapid and effective response to IT infrastructure incidents and minimizing downtime.
- Training and Development: Foster the professional growth of all teams through training programs, skill development initiatives, and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications for IT Manager
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology. Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field or equivalent experience.
- 2-5 years of experience working in IT operations
- Experience leading and managing large IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies.
- In-depth knowledge of IT infrastructure technologies, including servers, storage, networks, and virtualization.
- Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Excellent project management skills and strong ability to prioritize.
- Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, coach, and mentor key employees.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities.
