Job summary
Lead the Software Engineering team in the development of assigned software applications. He serves as the technical lead in the design, development and implementation of effective cross-functional projects to support the next generation digital/online platform for Walgreens. It plays an important role in the functional decomposition of complex problems into simple and straightforward solutions. Ensures the quality of system architecture and design. Assists directly and indirectly in the ongoing recruitment and development of technical talent. An innovative contributor to patent intellectual property.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, design, develop, and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or Internet-related assets for highly strategic and complex/high-risk projects. It plays a leading role in the design and development of new software.
- Writes code that establishes coding specifications, typically for unprecedented systems and software programs. Leads development of technical 'vision' and assigned design specifications for projects and oversees implementation.
- Develops, or may lead the development of, new or improved technical approaches and tools
- Plan, design, develop, and test software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based or Internet-related tools for highly strategic and complex/high-risk projects
- Has the development and implementation of a complete product or large project. Sample process (Scrum, TDD, etc.). Write technical specifications and identify risks before starting large projects. Set standards. It does its best to reduce complexity. If needed, take on additional “lead of technology” responsibilities to get an initiative done.
- Use technical skills in software design, architecture, and the interrelationships of software and systems.
- Interacts with peers and internal and external leaders to share highly complex information/solutions related to areas of expertise and/or gain consensus for new or improved business/technology solutions.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree + at least 6 years OR high school/GED + at least 9 years of engineering, software engineering, or related field experience
- Experience writing code for complex online applications, microservices or mobile applications
- Experience in algorithms, systems, architecture, bits and bytes, and automation
- Experience with project technical ownership.
- Experience in drafting and maintaining process documentation.
- Experience building coding solutions to solve complex issues/problems
- Management-level experience
- Experience leading cross-functional teams
- At least 2 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace
- At least 3 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional tea leadership
- Willingness to travel up to/at least 10% of time for business purposes (in state or out of state)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Computer Science, Information Technology
- Experience working in an Agile environment
DevOps
- Previous experience supporting a group of Automation Engineering/DevOps teams
- Hands-on experience is deployment automation for various IaaS applications, PaaS platforms in a large and complex system
- Hands-on experience with automation software such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform or equivalent
- Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for cloud deployments using containers/Docker for a large ecosystem
- Experience in Git workflows, pipelines and code repository management for agile development
- Experience working on the Kubernetes platform in a microservices architecture and other DevOps tools in high traffic applications
- In-depth understanding of infrastructure components (e.g. databases, networks, DNS, cloud services, orchestration resources, containerization)
- Experience in getting high-traffic web and mobile applications up and running through monitoring and alerting for a multilingual application stack
Web/Background
- Experience in supporting the design, development and implementation of effective cross-functional projects in support of the next generation web services platform for Walgreens
- Experience in decomposing complex problems into simple and straightforward solutions
- Experience facilitating technical collaboration across Walgreens IT, increasing productivity and effectiveness by sharing their deep knowledge and experience
- Experience assisting directly and indirectly with the ongoing recruitment and development of technical team members.
