T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park is looking for a self-motivated park service professional to fill the Assistant Park Manager position, providing visitor services, maintenance, protection, administration, and resource management. The applicant must possess good visitor service and administrative skills, be able to work independently, lead a team, and have the ability to perform a variety of skilled trade functions using assorted equipment and tools.

T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park features over 18 miles of beach & bay shorelines, multiple large beach day use areas, multiple nature trails, a 1,700 acre wilderness preserve, a brand new 46 site full hookup campground, a separate youth/group camping area, 14 primitive wilderness campsites along a 7 mile trail, 8 full service waterfront cabins, a very popular boat ramp & marina, waterfront concessionaire facilities, and high levels beach, day-use, and camping visitation.
The park is home to numerous important and protected cultural & archaeological sites, some of the largest remaining in-tact dune ecosystems in Florida, and is one of the most important state parks in the panhandle for imperiled species protection including Snowy Plovers and many shorebird species, the St. Andrews Beach Mouse, and is one of the oldest running index sea turtle nesting beaches in Florida. The St. Joseph Peninsula State Park team also manages the Constitution Convention Museum State Park in Port St. Joe.

Pay:
Base salary $2964 month/ $35,568 annual
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply with this section by any agency of the state shall constitute good cause for discharge of employees duly found responsible, or predominantly responsible, for failure to comply.
This is moderately independent work providing Visitor Services, Resource Management, Maintenance, Administration and Protection of T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park.
ADMINISTRATION - Participates in employee training, supervision, and discipline. Supervises the staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies. Ensures property procedures and policies are applied. Participates in the administration of the collective bargaining agreement and maintains good employee relations. Coordinates work schedules and assignments. Checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by the staff.
VISITOR SERVICES - Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, and schedules. Meets the public, interprets the resources, facilities, and services. Resolves problems and provides for good public relations. Supervises the staff in providing visitor services.
RESOURCE MANAGEMENT - Participates in the supervision of resource management programs including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic removal.
MAINTENANCE - Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections. Maintains maintenance schedules and supervises the staff to assure maintenance on a daily, weekly, and yearly basis is regularly performed. Supervises Rand assists with the maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc.
PROTECTION - Ensures park rules are enforced pertaining to all natural, historical and archaeological facilities and resources and use thereof, for the enjoyment of the visitor.
OTHER - Performs other related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Building maintenance and construction
- Florida Park Service management, operations, and mission
- Heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and resource management techniques
- Use of computers and related software
SKILL IN:
- Using a variety of hand tools, small engines, and power tools
ABILITY TO:
- Supervise people
- Determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper completion of work assignments
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Prepare and maintain schedules and reports
Minimum Qualifications:
Reside on park property
Valid Florida Class E driver’s license or an out-of-state class equivalent driver’s license
BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT: This position is a Position of Trust.
