About this role
This is a key position in the Benefits function that sits in the Benefits Center of Expertise and assists in the management of Canada and US retirement programs through supporting escalated employee and retiree needs and inquiries, managing vendors, creating communications, leads compliance and provides project support.
Your role will consist of
- Assists in the management of U.S. and Canadian retirement plans. This includes:
o Research escalated employee questions regarding retirement-related items and meet virtually with retirees as needed
o Lead vendor management including monthly calls and issue resolution
o Partner with actuaries on valuations, compliance and reporting
o Problem-solves and researches retirement issues and provides recommendations for resolution
o Manages semi-annual Savings Equalization Plan Open Enrollment
o Liaises with site HR and other teams on requests for benefits support
- Ensures all plans are in compliance with the applicable local, provincial and country laws and regulations
o Leads annual audits for plans requiring internal or external audits
o Be informed on new and changing retirement regulations, determine how they apply to our plans, make recommendations and implement changes as required
o Continually consider how our plan supports our Global Benefits Strategy and suggest changes or updates when necessary
o Serve as Sox Control Owner for U.S. pension plan
- Partner with Vendors, IT, HR Service Delivery, Payroll, Legal, Treasury and other Newmont teams as needed to solve problems and suggest process improvements
- Provides project support as benefits subject matter expert for U.S. and Canadian retirement programs
- Works closely with retirement plan administrator to provide guidance and answer questions as they arise
Your training, skills, and experience checklist
Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Math or another related field preferred
Deep knowledge of U.S. and Canadian retirement plan design, regulations and legislation
Familiarity with plan texts and employee benefits information requirements
Experience:
3+ years experience with U.S. and Canadian retirement plans
Mining, construction, utilities or other heavy industry experience is preferred
Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to keep information confidential
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Familiarity of SAP and Success Factors (CORE) helpful
Able to deliver on tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
