Solutions Architect (Retail Stores) 
 
Location: Remotely available – Occasional travel 
 
We are looking for a Solutions Architect with a focus on retail store technology domains (store technologies, store operations, store structures) to join the Starbucks Technology team and be part of the Starbucks Architecture community. The Solutions Architect will collaborate with the technology teams of all organizations and become part of the Enterprise Architectural umbrella. This role will evaluate architecture and use technical skills to understand business impacts, recommending and implementing new solutions, ways of working and technologies to meet business requirements. Key areas of focus for store technology architects will be in and around store sustainability initiatives, elevating the experience of technology services for partners and customers. In this pivotal role, you: 
 

• Have responsibility for building and maintaining technical solutions for all our retail occasions (Orders & Payments, Retail Inventory, Order Fulfillment, Store Operations and Store Support).
• Experience with cloud-native platforms, including designing and automating Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), including virtual machines, cloud services, containers, web and data. services, etc.
• Develop and promote models, guiding principles, practices, and governance that help infuse new technologies and advanced analytics into planned and developed solutions.
• Collaborate with other architects and engineering leaders to devise meaningful ways to improve the partner and customer experience through shared partnerships and roadmaps.
• Deeply involved in creating various architecture artifacts focused on shop technology solutions including, but not limited to, high level and solution architecture, logical and physical data reference models, sequence diagram, etc.
• Inspire the strategic direction of retail store technologies through active product and program engagement.
• Experience working with various stakeholders, including technology and business, to understand your company pain points, define business objectives and solution requirements.

An ideal person for this job is passionate about using cloud-native technology solutions to solve today's platform problems, while regularly challenging the status quo and driving the people-first culture at Starbucks. You will have a broad range of technical experience managing and designing solutions in at least one of the public clouds (Azure, AWS or GCP) in the Store technology domains.
 
Knowledge and skills 

•  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field with a minimum of 5 years or more of software and/or infrastructure engineering experience.
• At least 3 years of hands-on design/maintenance experience with cloud-based solutions on Azure, GCP, or AWS.
• Have hands-on experience working with microservices-based architecture. Hands-on experience building and supporting cloud-based and multi-tier applications.
• Hands-on experience designing high-volume and HA-DR (high availability - disaster recovery) architectures. Hands-on experience in high availability configuration architectures (application servers, databases, hardware, etc.).
• Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Excellent planning and organization skills.
