Job Title Trading Associate


Position Summary

The Trading Associate position is responsible for trading at SFMG. This is a vital role at the firm and requires great attention to detail. The position supports all our advisors in executing and recommending various types of trades on behalf of our clients. The role requires a unique combination of operational skills and investment knowledge. The Trading Associate will work closely with several different teams within SFMG, including the broader Investment Team on various projects and initiatives.

Candidate should have excellent attention to detail and ability to communicate effectively with advisors. Tech savvy and the ability to learn new programs quickly are essential to success in this position.


Essential Functions Statement(s)


Maintain Data Integrity within Portfolio Management and Trading Software

  • Set up new accounts and portfolios.
  • Maintain securities settings, models, trade instructions, advisor preferences, portfolio and account settings, etc.


Support flow of all trade requests at SFMG

  • Trade execution and allocation, including block trading.
  • Trade verification / reconciliation.
  • Ability to understand ETFs, Mutual Funds, Stocks, Fixed Income Products, Options
  • Seek to maximize the utilization of trading and rebalancing systems.


Support the Advisors in Rebalancing, Cash Spend/Raise Efforts, and Reporting

  • Produce and suggest trades for advisor review.
  • Identify portfolio rebalancing opportunities or other transactions that may benefit our clients.
  • Develop rebalancing reports and assist with related projects.
  • Generate portfolio allocation, cash, and margin summaries for advisors on a recurring basis.


Additional Investment Management, Alts, and Operations Support

  • Assist with SFMG’s Quarterly Reporting process.
  • Assist with processes or workflows in our CRM for the Alternative Investment team, Investment Management team, and Operations department as needed.


Work cohesively with all SFMG staff

  • Seek opportunities to collaborate and/or add efficiencies to the firm.
  • Offer support to SFMG team whenever possible.
  • Other ad hoc projects as needed.


Skills & Abilities

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics preferred.

Experience: 0-3 years financial service or other relevant experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Applications, Excel, Preferred: Python and VBA


Job Status: Full time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Eligible for Telework: Yes

Department: Investment Management


Work Schedule:

M-F; hours may vary by day between 8:00AM – 5:00PM

This position is located in Plano TX.
